What’s Wrong with this $50 DIY Sit-Stand Desk?

A $50 DIY Sit-Stand Desk?

Check this out! Look at this awesome idea for an inexpensive DIY sit-stand desk. Here’s what I like about it:

1. It’s Cheap:
It costs less than $50 for the entire desk.

2. It Requires Very Little Assembly.
Plus the package is easy to put together. Although it comes with a DIY price tag, it can be put together a just a few minutes with minimal work.

3. The Desktop is Adjustable!
The desktop height is adjustable to multiple positions by simply pushing a hand lever. This means that people can use it as a sitting desk as well as a standing desk.

4. This Desk Rolls Around!
This “desk” comes with swivel casters, so it can easily be moved around. Move it from room to room or from inside to outdoors. The wheels can also be locked into place.

5. It’s Light.
This standing workstation is lightweight (about 25 lbs), so it’s portable. You can even fold it small enough to stick it in a car.

6. This Standing Workstation Takes Up Very Little Space.
Whether you have a small home office, you work out of your bedroom or you simply don’t want a large desk, this standing workstation is really compact. The tabletop (and footprint) is only about 30″ wide x 18″ deep.

7. You Can Move it Out of the Way.
The desktop surface can be folded vertically, so it can be rolled away and stored in a closet when not in use.

So What Could Be Wrong with this DIY Sit-Stand Desk?

It only goes up to 45″ in height.

This means that if you are over 5’7″ tall, you are probably too big to comfortably use this desk. Sorry about that! If you are too tall but like the idea of a space-saving, easy-to-assemble and affordable stand-up desk, check out the floating wall desk. It’s pretty cool.

With that said, if you are shorter than 5’7″, you are in luck.

What is This Desk Anyway?

Actually, this “standing desk” is a medical over-bed table. It’s not even a desk at all.

However, I have found that some of the cheapest desks are not designed as such. If you are creative in looking for furniture that can be used as a standing desk, you can find cheap alternatives such as this overbed table created to be used in hospitals or homes where patients are bedridden or recovering from an injury.

The trick is to look outside the box. This is where you can often find low-priced deals. Yes, these may not be the perfect workstations, but if you can save $100’s, they may be worth it.

By the way, if you prefer a desktop that tilts, you have that option too. This version costs more than $50, and it doesn’t include a feature that keeps your work materials from sliding off the desk. However, it’s nothing that a few pieces of hardware at Home Depot can’t fix.

And… know that if you ever get injured or simply want to work on your computer without having to get out of bed that you’ve got a desk that can do that too. Yes, this standup desk is truly a bargain.
